寒冬之时,松、竹青翠茂盛而不凋零,梅花不同于凋谢的百花而怒放飘香。菊花无畏秋霜而盛开。

Chinese ancients designated the pine, bamboo and plum as three friends in winter and the plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum as four gentlemen, which reflect the ideal personality in Chinese traditional culture. In winter, pine and bamboo are still green and lush but not fall. Plum, differing from other species, burst into blossom when it is severe cold. Blooming Chrysanthemum have no fear about autumn frost. They are seen as example of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.
