“信”字是由“人”和“言”组成的字，表示人说的话应该是真实的，所以“信”的愿意就是指“实话”、“诚实”。后来这个字又多了不少的意义，比方“信心”、“相信”等等。
The character 信is an associative compound comprised of人(rén: person) on the left and言(yán: speech/word) on the right, signifying that the words of a person should be true. So the original meaning of this character was “words being true and honest”; it has also been extended to mean “confidence”, “to believe”, and “letter”, etc.
