Bié Dǒng Dà
Gāo Shì （Táng）
Qiān lǐ huángyún báirì xūn,
běifēng chuī yàn xuě fēnfēn.
Mò chóu qiánlù wú zhījǐ,
Tiānxià shuírén bù shí jūn?
“黄云（huáng yún）” refers to the raging yellow sands blown up into the sky by the fierce wind. “曛（xūn）” refers to the dimness and somberness of the sky.
Yellow sands are blown into the sky, shaping into yellow clouds which obscure the sun with a gloom and spread miles and miles. The roaring north wind is seeing off the wild geese, which are hastily heading south for the winter, and the snowflakes are whirling down, driven in showers by the unrelenting wind. Don't you worry about being lonely on the road ahead; who in this world does not know you and recognize you as a friend?
This poem depicts a picture when the poet is seeing off his friend in a bad weather. He encourages his friend and gives consolation, which shows the profound sentiments of friendship between him and his friend.
