Hè Zhī zhāng (Táng )

Bì yù zhuāng chéng yī shù gāo ,
Wàn tiáo chuí xià lǜ sī tāo 。
Bù zhī xì yè shuí cái chū ,
Èr yuè chūn fēng sì jiǎn dāo 。

Evaluation

Seen from afar, the branches look full of hanging jade stones. The willow branches dangle like green ribbons. The budding willow leaves are slim, like they were cut by someone – but whom? It was a spring breeze in the second month that, like scissors, cuts out the tender leaves.

When the second lunar month arrives, the willow leaves have already turned green, so Chinese people view willow trees as messengers of spring. When the long willow branches dangle and dance in the wind, spring has arrived.
