Li Xiangxiang wowed viewers and judges last night to win in the final of "Chinese Idol" in Shanghai on 25th of Aug..

Li, a 27-year-old pub singer from Anhui Province, impressed the audience and the panel of judges with the song "Luo Ye Gui Gen" and his dancing skills.

Li said he was surprised he won as he didn't think he performed well enough last night.

Tibetan singer Yangjima, also 27, who has been called "goddess" by fans due to her pure and tranquil voice, was the runner-up.

Six contestants competed in the final. Other finalists included the London-born James Morriscotterill, whose mother is Hong Kong Chinese and father British' dynamic pub singer and dancer Ai Fei, melancholic singer Hou Lei, and versatile Kazakh singer Ah Lai.

Yesterday's finale also featured singer-songwriter and multi-Grammy award winner Lionel Richie of the US and Taiwan singer Law Chi-cheung.

Richie performed his well-known song "Say You, Say Me," and did a duet with Chinese-American singer Coco Lee, also a judge on the show, of his hit "Endless Love."

Richie, on his first visit to Shanghai, also encouraged finalists to be themselves and turn their passion into a career.

According to the show's producers from Dragon TV, Li will sign a contract with Universal Music Group and record his first album.

Finalists will also have a chance to give concerts and star in original musicals and films.
