In China, libraries are widely distributed. The largest library in China is the National Library in Beijing, which has the largest collection of Chinese literature. Also, it has the largest collection of foreign books and periodicals in China. The earliest collection in the National Library are oracle bones from the late Shang Dynasty over 3,000 years ago, when royal families divined the future and recorded information with tortoise shells and animal bones. These tortoise shells, also called oracle bones, were unearthed in the Yin Ruins. Now, the National Library undertakes the responsibility of serving the public. It is open 365 days a year and receives about 13,600 readers per day.
