The Lantern Festival(元宵节 Yuánxiāo jié) falls on fiftheen day of the first lunar month. It is one of the traditional festivals in China. The Lantern Festival has a history of 2000 years, which is the first vital festival after Spring Festival. According to the Chinese folks’ tradition, on that day people will hang thousands of lanterns to celebrate the festival. It can be exciting to go out and enjoy the glorious of the full moon and guess the lantern riddles, or just stay at home with your family eating the sweet dumplings and see the TV show.

Eating yuanxiao

"Yuanxiao" known as sweat dumplings has a long history since it became food in China. In Song(宋 sòng) dynasty, people usually tried to eat newfangled food on the Lantern Festival, then the “Yuanxiao” appeared on the stage. In the ancient times “Yuanxiao” is quite expensive, few people could afford it at that time.

There are all kinds of flavor in Yuanxiao, the stuffing can be sugar, rose, sesame, bean paste, walnut, jujube and other things like meat and beef. Whatever you like can be filled in it. Chinese people like to eat Yuanxiao because of its good meaning-reunion.

Walking on stilts

Walking on stilts is a popular folk art in China, it has emerged as early as Spring and Autumn Period. On that day, people usually take out the stilts made by themselves and walk on the street.

Lion dance

Traditional folk programs – lion dance is a brilliant folk art in China, during the Lantern Festival or other celebrations, people usually play lion and dragon dance to liven things up. This custom originated in the Three Kingdoms period, and became popular in the Northern and Southern Dynasties(南北朝 Nánběi cháo).

"Lion dance" is generally done by three people, two dressed as a lion, among the two one acts as lion's head, and the other acts as lion’s body. One people left as the leader of the lion. There are varied actions including prance, kicking, rolling which make up the whole performance. Many people are attracted because of interesting action.
