The Object
An object is appended to a verb acting as the subject to indicate the target of an action, the place arrived at by an action, the tools used in an action, or the result of an action. For instance,
我们在吃饭 (wǒmen zài chīfàn)。We are having lunch. ("饭" is the object)
The object is usually placed after a verb serving as a predicate. The object is most often a noun or pronoun. However, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, numerals, and phrases can all act as the object. For instance,
我们明天去购物 (wǒmen míngtiān qù gòuwù)。We will go shopping tomorrow. (The noun "购物" is the object)
我喜欢钓鱼 (wǒ xǐhuān diàoyú)。I like fishing. (The verb "钓鱼" is the object)

A transitive verb can either carry an object or go without one. When a transitive verb carries one object it is called a single object. For instance,
我们阅读 (wǒmen yuèdú)  We are reading. (The transitive verb "阅读", to transcribe, does not carry an object)
我们阅读课文 (wǒmen yuèdú kèwén)。 We are reading a book. (The transitive verb "阅读" carries the object "课文", which is a single object)

Some transitive verbs can take two object and this is called a double object. The first object is called an indirect object and the second is called a direct object. For instance,
老师教我们英语 (lǎoshī jiāo wǒmen yīngyǔ)。 The teacher is teaching us English. (The pronoun "我们" is an indirect object and the noun "英语" Chinese is a direct object)

For the purpose of emphasis, comparison, or simplification the object may be placed in front of a verb acting as a predicate. This is called a fronted object. For instance,
我把这些家务活都干完了 (wǒ bǎ zhèxiē jiāwùhuó dōu gān wán le)。I have finished all of the housework. (The object "这些家务" is after the subject "我" and before the predicate "干")
这些家务我都干完了 (zhèxiē jiāwùhuó wǒ dōu gān wán le)。 I have finished all of the housework. (The object "这些家务" is before both the subject "我" and the predicate "干")
