Acrobatic(an acrobatic movement or display involves difficult physical acts such as jumping and balancing, especially in a circus) Troupe of Gansu Province(甘肃省Gānsù shěng) was founded in May 1960. As the only professional acrobatics troupe in the province, the troupe has created and staged over 100 programs since its inception, such as "Exotic Flower of China", "Art Presented in Palace", "Flying Goddess", "Rolling Lamps", "Juggling Hoops", "Pangu Drum" and "Balancing Jars on Head". "Rolling Lamps" won the silver clown award at the international acrobatics contest in Poland in 1996 and eight of its programs, including "Exotic Flowers of China" and "Pangu Drum," also won prizes at various national contests.

"Dream of Dunhuang," which is based on the Mogao fresco in Dunhuang has successfully combined the techniques of acrobatics and fresco(a fresco is a picture that is painted on a plastered wall when the plaster is still wet) art in Dunhuang to fully demonstrate the glamour of the art of acrobatics with its gentle and delicate performances.

"Rolling Lamps" features fantastic shapes of human bodies displaying the amazing flexibility as well as the stamina of the performers.

The troupe has toured over a dozen regions, including Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, the Congo, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde and Iraq, as well as Hong Kong. The troupe artists are reputed for their exquisite skills, enthusiasm, discipline and virtue in performance. They were highly praised by the Ministry of Culture and the provincial government for their tour of seven countries in Africa and the Middle East in 1996.
