矛和盾

有 一 个 人 卖 矛 又 卖 盾。人 来 买 盾，他
yǒuyíɡerénmàimáoyòumàidùn。rénláimǎidùn，tā

就 夸 他 的 盾 说：“我 的 盾 坚 固 极 了，不 论
jiùkuātādedùnshuō：“wǒdedùnjiānɡùjíle，búlùn

什 么 矛 都 扎 不 透 它。”有 人 来 买 矛，他 又 来
shénmemáodōuzhābútòutā。”yǒurénláimǎimáo，tāyòulái

夸 他 的 矛 说：“我 的 矛 锋 利 极 了，不 论 什 么
kuātādemáoshuō：“wǒdemáofēnɡlìjíle，búlùnzhēn

东 西 它 都 能 扎 透。”
dōnɡxitādōunénɡzhātòu。”

另 外 一 个 人 问 他：“用 你 的 矛 扎 你 的 盾，
lìnɡwàiyíɡerénwèntā：“yònɡnǐdemáozhānǐdedùn，

那 又 怎 么 样 呢？”他 就 回 答 不 出 来 了。
nàyòuzěnmeyànɡne？”tājiùhuídábùchūláile。

The Spear and the shield

Long ago there was a man who sold spears andalso shields.When someone came to buy a shield he would praise his shields andsay , "My shields are extremely strong.No spear can pierce throngh them."
If someone came to y a spear he also lauded his spears,saying ,"My spears are extremely sharp.
They can pierce throngh anything."

Another person asked him ,"If we use one of your spears to pierce one of your shields,what then?" The man could not answer.
