老（lǎo）

 
字形：
“老”字的古体，与“长”字的古体相似，也是一个扶杖老人的象形，但头发短而直立，与“长”字有明显的区别。“老”最初指老人，年纪大的人。后来年代久、寿命长的东西也称为“老”。
"老" in its earliest form looked similar to the ancient form of "长", both showing the image of an elderly man supported by a walking stick.
