Guāncāng huāshǔ dà rú dǒu,
官仓花鼠大如斗，
jiàn rén kāi cāng yì bù zǒu.
见人开仓亦不走。
Jiàn’ér wú liáng bǎixìng jī,
健儿无粮百姓饥，
shuí qiǎn zhāozhāo rù jūn kǒu?
谁遣朝朝入君口?

Evaluation

官家粮仓里的花老鼠像斗一样大，看见人来打开粮仓也不跑。战士们没有补给的粮食，百姓们仍在忍饥挨饿，可是谁把这么多的粮食每天送到你们嘴里的呢？
Mice in the government-owned granary have almost grown as big as a dou (a measure for grain). They do not fear people and even never flee when seeing people moving around. While, soldiers in the front line have no supply and civilians are suffering from hunger. Then, who are the ones that feed these mice with so many grains day after day?

这首诗表面上是写大老鼠，实际上是用大老鼠来比喻、讽刺那些吸食人民血汗的贪官污吏，并且把矛头直接指向最高统治者，是他们纵容了这些贪官污吏，造成了这不合理的现象的存在。
Apparently this poem talks about mice in government barns, but actually it uses them as a metaphor to satirize the corrupt government officials who fatten themselves with people’s life blood. This poem goes further to condemn the supreme ruler in the feudal society since it is him who connived at the corruption, resulting in the persistence of the problem.
