拜年 (bàinián) pay a New Year call; wish sb. a Happy New Year

Usage:

“拜年”是中国民间的传统习俗，是人们在农历新年的时候相互表达美好祝愿的一种方式。拜年的时候，长辈要给晚辈准备压岁钱，压住邪恶寓意吉祥。近年来，随着信息技术的提高，越来越多的人选择用电话或短信的方式互相拜年。
"拜年(bàinián)" is a Chinese tradition, which is a way to wish each other a happy new year on Spring Festival. When receiving New Year greetings, the elders are supposed to give money to children to drive away evil influence and attract good luck.
