中国式 (ZhōngGuó shì) Chinese-style

Usage:

“中国式”的说法最初源自王海鸰的小说《中国式离婚》, 2012年网友提出 “中国式过马路”,即“凑够一堆人就可以走了,和红绿灯无关”,之后媒体上出现大批议论中国人或中国社会问题的“中国式XX”,如“中国式接送孩子”、“中国式相亲”、“中国式插队”等等,表达自嘲与质疑。
“中国式” originated from Wang Hailing’s novel Chinese-Style Divorce. Then, in 2012, netizens created the phrases “中国式过马路” (Chinese-style crossing the street), which means that once a critical mass of people has formed, they can cross a road regardless of the traffic lights. Afterwards, there appeared on media outlets a large number of “Chinese-XX” phrases to describe problems common among Chinese people or in Chinese society. Some examples include “中国式接送孩子” (Chinese-style pick-ups and drop-offs for children ), “中国式相亲” (Chinese-style blind dates), “中国式插队” (Chinese-style cutting in line), all of which express questioning and self-deprecation.
