Cultural tips

Talking about chopsticks and forks, scholars have done research on this. Some insist that the Chinese used to rely mainly on farming had mainly vegetarian diet, so it's convenient to eat with chopsticks. Whereas westerners were nomadic nationalities and live on meat, for which forks and knives are more suitable.

What's more, the Chinese prefer to eat together. People share the food from one plate. Using chopsticks would restrict the amount of food people take from the plate each time. Therefore, using chopsticks keeps the state of collectivism and individual benefit would not be influenced very much. For westerners things are simpler, they just eat the food on their own plate.

Also it's a taboo for the Chinese to insert chopsticks into a bowl full of rice, and it's impolite to beat the bowl with chopsticks or spoon.
