Cultural tips
There is a Chinese saying that: A man has his face like a tree has its bark, meaning a man has a sense of shame. Most Chinese people pay special attention to "Mianzi". The literal meaning of "Mianzi" is outer parts, or one's face, but its extended meaning is reputation or prestige. Influenced for a long period of time by Confucianism that advocates "harmony is precious" as the basic principle of people's communication, "to save other's face in public" is an important way of keeping harmonious relationships with others. What's more, the Confucianism advocates that friends should live together and die together. Even friends can make mistakes and people should not point out these mistakes in front of other people. To save one's face is not only to show your respect to him/her, but is also a lubricant to keep people's relationships smooth.
